The web sites on this page will help you to find food and wine suppliers and will also help you to compare the cost of your ordinary grocery shopping.

MySupermarket lets you compare the cost of your online shopping trolley between Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys and Ocado (Waitrose). Choose your normal supermarket and fill your trolley, then MySupermarket tells you if you can get a better deal from one of the others. You can then place your order online with your normal supplier or the one that gives you the best value for your selection. You still get the loyalty rewards that you would get from Tesco (Clubcard points) and Sainsburys (Nectar points) and you also get ipoints on top. Prices and special offers are all included and they are updated daily. This service does not cost you anything. You need to register if you want to send your order through to the supermarket, but you do not have to pay.

Just-Eat is a new idea in the UK, but is already very widely used in Scandinavia and Europe. It lets you place an online order for fast food, which is fed through to the restaurant and confirmed, by them, online, within about 90 seconds. You choose collection or delivery. Estimated times are given before you place your order.

Several wine merchants will let you order wine and other drinks online and have cases delivered. Some of them are clubs, that you join and take a regular case of your choice every three months or so. In some instances the wine is delivered by default and you have to advise the merchant in advance if you do not want it. With others you order what you want, when you want and you won't get any wine unless you order it yourself. In most cases there is no commitment to buy anything after your first order, even if you join a club, but there are exceptions where you agree to buy at least a minimum number of cases each year.

Laithwaites operate the 4Seasons wine club. You get a cheap case of wine as an introduction to their service but you do not have to accept any more wine unless you want to. They will send you regular mailings with offers in case you want to accept their suggested case every 3 months or order something else. However, they do charge £5.95 for each delivery, so if you order one case at a time that adds about 50p to the cost of each bottle.

Majestic will mix cases of wine and spirits to your choice and deliver free, so the drink is all you pay for. They also sell and deliver beers and other drinks but only as an addition to a case of wine or spirits. It is possible to order smaller quantities for delivery through a gift scheme, but then the price includes a delivery charge. Oddbins will also mix cases and will deliver any quantity of wines, spirits, fortified wines and champagne, with no minimum. They have frequent offers such as discounts of 5% off 6 bottles of wine or 10% of a case. However, there is a delivery charge, which is £6.99 for up to 11 bottles and £7.99 for 12 or more so you need to factor that into the prices.

First4Hampers and Clearwater Hampers both supply and deliver food only or food with wine hampers including fruit baskets. A huge variety of contents is possible typically including the less common treats. There are classic combinations for most tastes and occasions or you can compose your own hamper from a list of food items. Hampers can be ordered from under £30. Clearwater list delivery prices against the hamper. First4Hampers charge £8.50 for next day delivery by Parcel Force. Deliveries may be slower and more expensive to areas that are more difficult to access.

London Fine Foods sell just that. Fine foods. Foods that you would not normally see in out-of-town supermarkets, such as foie gras and truffles. Their web site also has recipe ideas. UK mainland delivery is at least £9.99 plus VAT and is normally next day, but for quicker delivery or delivery on a Saturday, it can cost up to £35. They will quote for delivery beyond mainland UK.
