What's the
difference?
Fragrances contain a perfume oil and something to make it evaporate - usually alcohol. The greater the quantity of perfume, the longer it will last and the more it will cost.
Perfume has 15 - 30% of perfume oil and will last about 6 - 8 hours. Eau de Parfum (EDP) has 7 - 15% perfume oil and will last 5 - 7 hours.
Eau de Toilette or EDT has 4 - 8% of perfume oil and will last 4 - 6 hours.
Eau de Cologne (EDC) and aftershave have 3 - 5% of perfume oil and will last 2 - 3 hours.
For traditional branded fragrances there is a huge amount of choice. If you are buying for yourself and don't need fancy packaging, you could try Fragrance direct, who sell unboxed testers as well as retail packaged products. Why spend lots on packaging if you are only going to throw it away?
For the full packaged product, where you get the best bargain will depend to some extent on the amount you buy, because they have different delivery charges.
If you are just buying one product, choose companies with free post, such as Feel Unique, or that charge by the item, such as Cheap Smells, who charge 95p post if you buy one bottle. If you are buying three or more products, it is usually cheaper to go to one of the companies that charges a fixed postal rate per order, such as Perfume Point. They charge £2.46 for any number of products up to a total order value of £40.
Look out for freebies, too. Perfume Point are offering a free Morgan Femme perfume sample with all orders and a free Beckham washbag if you spend over £50. Choose a black David bag or a pink Victoria bag. They sell a huge range of designer perfumes, all genuine and no testers, yet they do this at up to 80% off the full retail price. Their range includes new fragrances from Coleen and Shilpa Shetty as well as traditional favourites from Christian Dior, Elizabeth Arden and many others.
Do fragrances always smell the same?
The smell of a perfume depends on the chemistry and natural balance of the skin. Perfumes can smell different on different skins.
Some online shops, such as Carter and Bond and Wholeman specialise in products for men. Wholeman have developed a range of vitamins and supplements to complement their grooming offers, specifically designed to respond to the needs of men. Customers can also book a special treatment at their luxurious central London treatment centre. Carter and Bond also have Carter and Bond for women.
