There are two packages from £15.95 (with limited monthly downloads and modem) to £20.95 (with unlimited downloads and wireless router), both with free setup and connection. The alternative is to buy a phone and broadband package, which bundles free evening and weekend calls, free set-up, free connection and wireless router with home phone for £25.95 per month, including monthly line rental.

PlusNet offer options with monthly usage allowances from 1GB to 30Gb, starting at £9.99. There are also options that include free broadband phone calls. The contract period is only 1 month, but if you stay for 12 months you get a free router, which is wireless for all but the cheapest package. Their basic package, called Option 1 is the one that costs £9.99. It gives you 1GB usage per month and a wired modem. Option 2 increases the usage to 15GB and the cost to £14.99. Option 3 gives you 30Gb for £19.99. For £19.99 per month you can also choose a Pro package, which gives you priority at times of internet congestion with a 15Gb monthly allowance. All packages come with 24 hour UK based support, download speeds up to 8Meg and free use between midnight and 8am. You can add home phone with free weekend and evening calls from £9.99 per month or the anytime package gives free UK landline calls is £15 per month. Both phone packages include line rental.

BeBroadband have a range of options from £14 per month. They offer unlimited downloads and have speeds up to 24Meg and free wireless modem with some packages.

For an extra £10 per month (total £24) BeUnlimited increases the maximum download speed to 24 meg and offers a free wireless modem. The top package is BePro Unlimited, which, for £40 per month, builds on BeUnlimited with up to 2.5 meg upload speed and a high specification Be Box modem.

BT Total Broadband offers three BT Broadband Options costing between £15.99 and £24.99 per month for 12 month contracts, with a discount for the first three months if you commit to an 18 month contract. All options include free connection, download speeds of up to 8Mb and free evening & weekend UK voice calls with BT’s Broadband Talk service (Voip).

The top package, BT Total Broadband Option 3, at £24.99 per month, comes with unlimited usage, a wireless Home Hub, a Home Hub phone, inclusive evening and weekend calls over the internet, 250 BT Openzone minutes a month and built-in enhanced Norton security.

The 'future-proofed' BT Home Hub supports BT’s full range of services and connects wirelessly to PCs and other broadband devices.

TalkTalk have a number of packages that usually work out quite a bit cheaper. However, they all have a £29.99 connection fee, an 18 month minimum contract term and payment must be by direct debit. All the packages have a 40Gb monthly use allowance and all include a wired modem (extra £30 for wireless). Adding to the value their packages include free calls to other TalkTalk subscribers, free evening and weekend calls to all UK landlines and free international calls to certain countries: the details vary depending on the package.

The basic TalkTalk package costs a total of £16.39 including line rental of £10.50 and service fee of £5.89, with weekday calls at 3p and mobile calls at 12p. For an extra £3.60 (total £19.99) you can also get 100 free minutes to UK mobiles. There are also two packages that include daytime landline calls at £20.49, with calls to mobiles at 12p, and £24.99 with 100 free minutes to UK mobiles.

Remember, these four packages from Talk Talk all include broadband and line rental - so there is nothing extra to pay to BT. If you place an order before 30th June, the service fees are half-price for 3 months, so the basic package will cost £2.95 (instead of £5.89) plus £10.50 line rental - a total of £13.45 for the first three months.
